Kroger is testing technology that lets customers scan grocery items themselves as they take them off the shelf.
The concept is called "Scan, Bag, Go". Shoppers get handheld scanners and bags as they walk in the door. Then customers scan and bag the items as they walk through the store, then scan a barcode at the front of the store that transfers their order to the checkout.
The technology speeds up the checkout process.
Kroger is also working on a mobile app.
