For the past several years, Knoxville has seen the transformation of the 188-acre Cherokee Farm innovation campus on Alcoa Highway across from UT hospital.

Developers hope the land, once part of UT's ag campus, will become a world class research center, and now the campus is ready for tenants.

The project is a joint venture between UT and the Oak Ridge National Lab. Construction is already underway on the joint institute for advanced materials.

The Cherokee Farm Development Corporation has been established to recruit more investment. Their mission is to grow jobs and the local economy by giving companies access to UT an ORNL research facilities, including the latest super computers.

"We do that by talking to companies, recruiting companies that see a real value in all of the resources that the university and the lab have at their fingertips," said Cliff Hawks, Cherokee Farms president.

The advanced material research center is schedule to be completed late next year.
