Thursday night, a high school soccer team played in honor of a former student who recently lost her battle with Leukemia.
Eighteen-year-old Claire Hayes died last Thursday. The William Blount High School soccer team honored her during their Senior Night ceremony at half time. They players wore purple arm bands in remembrance, and the seniors from William Blount, and one Heritage player who was close to Claire, released balloons into the air.
"She never let her spirit break, through the last breath that she gave in this life, and that's why we are honoring her, is because of that spirit, never down and out, never gave up, and that's why I am trying to teach these guys, it's that same spirit leads teams to become champions," said Jim Millsaps, head coach.
The Governors tied Heritage in the game.
