The weekend's heavy rains left much of East Tennessee hoping to dry out Sunday afternoon.

The rain finally did move out of Knoxville around 5 p.m., but not before it left numerous lawns and roadways underwater.

Parts of Middlebrook Pike and Emory Road in west and north Knoxville, respectively, had spots will standing water throughout the day. Streams like First Creek and Third Creek also could not handle the rain. Each waterway swelled as they rose to the height of their banks.

Gus's Good Times Deli Deliveryman Cullyn Cochran spent much of his day out on the region's wet roads. He said he had to use caution.

"It was really bad earlier today," he said. "I had to go out on the interstate, down toward a local road. It was pretty gnarly, a lot of wrecks, a lot of people pulled over."

But, luckily, both THP and KPD said the amount of accidents their departments encountered Sunday was not abnormal.
