Four years after his death, Popcorn Sutton's namesake distilling company is setting up shop in East Tennessee.
10News has learned Popcorn Sutton Distilling is in the process of opening a distillery in Newport of Highway 25/70. Master Distiller & partner Jamie Grosser says the company "always" wanted to be in Newport, but local legislation prevented that. However, laws recently changed.
Once the move is complete, 99% of the company's TN White Whiskey will be made at the facility.
Popcorn Sutton lived in Cocke County, Tennessee, but also claimed North Carolina as home. He took his own life in 2009 just a few months after he pleaded guilty to charges including "knowingly distilling" spirits.
