Former Knox County judge Richard Baumgartner is planning to appeal his prison sentence.

Last month, a federal court judge sentenced Baumgartner to six months in federal custody, following his conviction in November. A jury decided he knew about and covered up illegal drug deals that supplied him with prescription pain killers while serving on the Knox County bench.

Tuesday, Attorney Don Bosch filed a Notice of Appeal on Baumgartner's behalf. However, Baumgartner has said he wants to go ahead and serve his time while his appeal moves forward.
