People in Morristown spent Monday remembering officers who never made it home.
In Tennessee, the Officer Down Memorial Page reports 577 fallen officers, but in Morristown and Hamblen County, there's been only one recorded death of an officer, which happened in 1942.
Residents recognize that officers risk their lives every day for the safety of others.
"You're actually gonna be out on the street, fighting crime, battling the forces of evil, and it's just a job unlike any other. It's not actually a job, we call it, it's actually a calling, just like a minister's job," said Major Gary Lowe with Morristown PD.
Memorial services and fundraisers are being held around the country as part of National Law Enforcement Week.
According to a government report, an officer is killed in the line of duty every 53 hours.
