(WBIR-Knoxville) Almost every morning since 1986, a group of men and women have met for breakfast at the Hardee's in Karns.

The Karns Hardee's was the first fast food restaurant in the community, so it was a perfect place for the group of locals to meet.

Larry York said, "Actually it's great to be here. We enjoy each other. Sometimes we have a lot to talk about and other times it will be quiet around here."

Since 1986, the group has grown from a handful to nearly 25 people on any given day. Most members of the "Hardee's Breakfast Club" were born and raised in Karns and have been friends since childhood. The group ranges in ages from 59 to 85 years old.

The Karns High School art teacher, Bill Shinn, knew of the gathering, and decided to have one of his art students paint the group, "I thought that is pretty interesting and these guys that sit over here and I came back with a camera and started taking pictures."

Starting in the fall of 2012, Shinn took pictures of the crew over three days. Then, student Emma Batson started painting.

"Basically you have painted all this skin tone," explained Batson, "Then you have to put in shadows and highlights to make it look like a face."

Shinn asked Hardee's if he could hang the painting on a blank wall. They agreed, and on Monday morning the picture was unveiled.

Batson finally met the men and women she painted, "It's these people who I have been staring at in the kitchen for months and they are all really nice."
