Some local teachers have received recognition for their work to make a difference in the classroom. The Rotary Club of Knoxville handed out its annual Outstanding Teachers of the Year awards.

This year's big winners are Karen Binger, a fifth grade teacher at Blue Grass Elementary, and Wanda Lacey, an AP calculus teacher at Farragut High.

"I know both of them very well. Mrs. Lacey's out of Farragut and does a great job, and Mrs. Binger has actually been the teacher of both of my children," said Knox County Schools Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre. "So I think it's a great choice for the Rotary Club. They've done very well. They're really both just extraordinary educators. So we're glad to be here today to celebrate great teaching."

Both teachers received a $500 check and a $250 gift certificate to A&W Office Supply.
