(WBIR-Knoxville) Make-A-Wish Foundation whisked a local teen battling heart issues to the most magical place on earth.
Garrett, 14, has had several surgeries in the past on his heart. His one wish was to travel to Orlando and visit Disney World, Universal and all the other theme parks. On Saturday, he took off from McGhee Tyson Airport to Florida.
His mother, Connie Metcalf, said she's grateful that Make-A-Wish provides families a getaway from the hospital and health problems.
"I think everyone should support Make-A-Wish," said Metcalf. "If they have a sick child, or a sick neighbor or family or a friend with a health issue. It's great. It's a great thing. It really is."
Since it started in 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted more than 200,000 wishes and more than 14,000 in 2011 alone.
