The new head of the US Department of Energy made a stop in East Tennessee.
Secretary Ernest Moniz visited ORNL, and said the work taking place in Oak Ridge provides a good look at the Department of Energy's overall mission. He also addressed last year's security breach at Y-12. He said it showed areas where changes need to be made and not just in security.
"We are going to be elevating this focus on management performance. Exactly how we will do it is still under discussion. We hope to be able to reach a resolution on that, again, quite promptly," he said.
Monday was Moniz's first official visit of any kind since his appointment last month.
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (AP) -- Ernest Moniz, the new U.S. secretary of energy, is making the Oak Ridge National Laboratory his first official trip in office.
Moniz, who was confirmed in May, will be touring the scientific facilities at the Oak Ridge National laboratory on Monday.
Moniz is scheduled to address the National Energy Lab Directors Meeting, see the Y-12 National Security Complex, a nuclear weapons plant, and visit the VULCAN, a research instrument at the Spallation Neutron Source.
