Stephanie Thompson, the director of Maryville city schools, plans to retire at the end of the calendar year. She made the announcement during a school
board meeting Monday evening.
Thompson has worked in education for 35 years, and has served as Maryville's director of schools for five-and-a-half years. She's also served as a teacher, coach and librarian.
Thompson says she feels it's just time to retire and finally get some sleep after serving in the time-consuming position. She got emotional when talking about what she'll miss most.
"Miss the people. Obviously that's, when you're in education, that's who you're dealing with is teachers, administrators, and children and parents. And that's exactly what is gonna be missed," she said.
Thompson says the school board will meet in the next month to start talking about how they want to go about finding a new director of schools.
