A project to widen Alcoa Highway drew a crowd at a South Knoxville church. TDOT held a meeting Thursday evening to hear from the public about transforming eight miles of Alcoa Highway.
On its busiest day, that road handles 50,000 travelers.
Right now, the stretch from Cherokee Trail to Pellissippi Parkway is four lanes wide. One idea calls for expanding it to six or even eight lanes.
That idea has some neighbors concerned. They say they're worried the city will try to take away their property.
Any expansion of Alcoa Highway is years away. The project hasn't made it through the design or funding phases.
TDOT is calling for more input from the public before moving forward.
