Rockwood native, Glory Lee Wright, 75, never much paid attention to the railroad horn he hears everyday.

"I grew up out there on the railroad not far from the track."

But after a week ago, the sound stops him in his tracks.

"I'll never forget it. I never will."

On June 15th, Wright made a stop at a Dollar General store and was on his way home when he drove across the railroad tracks that run next to the store.

"I crossed the track and I saw this baby just out there in the track and I looked for the parents and I see didn't them. I freaked out at that point," Wright said. "I heard the train and I immediately pulled over, parked my car and took up after her."

"We normally have trains running through our city every 10 to 20 minutes at speeds from 30 to 50 miles per hour," said Rockwood police officer Jared Hall. "So it was very scary."

Wright took the toddler to the store where they called police.

"There was no way I was going to let that baby get away, no way. I knew about that train," Wright said.

Police say the mother of the child, Rahab Jaramillo, came and picked him up. She left him with the child's grandmother who admitted to police her medication made it difficult to care for the child.

It's a situation that is difficult for Wright to understand. He has three kids and grandkids of his own.

Now every time he hears the train go by, he thinks about the little boy.

"I really want to see him," he said. "I guess I'll never get over it."

The toddler's parents were arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect.

Department of Children's Services investigated but did not remove the child from the home.

They say they are working with the family and do everything they can to avoid leaving children in a home where they could be in danger.

As for Wright, the city and police department are planning a public thank you at a city council meeting and are collecting donations for a gift.
