(WBIR-Knoxville) The 6-month-old baby shot and killed last Wednesday in South Knoxville was laid to rest Tuesday morning.
According to Berry Funeral Home on Chapman Highway, family members attended a private funeral service for Kelsey Major, and she was buried in Lynnhurst Cemetery in Knoxville.
Authorities charged the baby's mother, Angela Major, with reckless homicide in connection with the shooting death of her daughter. She also pleaded guilty to vandalism in 2010 after a fire was set in her rental home while her three children were still inside.
Major and the child's father, Ken Mason, 40, who was not connected to the arson investigation, are both charged with reckless homicide and are being held on a $1 million bond. According to documents, a witness in the house at the time of the shooting overheard the child's parents fighting over a handgun while the baby sat at their feet.
The witness said she then heard a struggle. She said the gun went off, striking the father in the hand and hitting the baby in the head. The incident happened at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on Alcoa Highway in South Knoxville.
