Any American will tell you the United States is a patriotic country,
but as we mark another Independence Day, can any city stake a claim to
be the most patriotic? Foursquare,
the popular app that enables mobile check-ins at venues across the
nation, has applied an interesting formula to try to provide an answer.
to Foursquare's analysis, the USA's most patriotic city is
Knoxville, Tenn., followed by Oklahoma City and Raleigh, N.C. Foursquare
bases the list on an analysis of activity from July 4, 2012, when they
found that residents of these cities were most likely to check in at
parks, parades and fireworks celebrations. Here's a look at the top ten:
1. Knoxville, Tenn.
2. Oklahoma City
3. Raleigh, N.C.
4. San Antonio, Texas
6. Sarasota, Fla.
9. Charlotte, N.C.
10. Kansas City, Mo.
also compiled a list of historic sites with the most check-ins last
July 4, with cities famous for their Independence Day celebrations well
represented. Washington, D.C., dominates the slate, with the Washington
Monument -- the epicenter of the city's all-day activities -- receiving
the most check-ins across the country. Boston's Faneuil Hall comes in
second, with Philadelphia's Independence Hall and New York's Statue of
Liberty also hosting many revelers. Here's the top ten:
1. Washington Monument, Washington, D.C.
2. Quincy Market / Faneuil Hall Marketplace, Boston
3. Lincoln Memorial, Washington
4. The White House, Washington
5. Independence Hall, Philadelphia
6. Statue of Liberty, New York City
7. Jefferson Memorial, Washington
8. Liberty Bell Center, Philadelphia
9. Alcatraz Island, San Francisco
10. World War II Memorial, DC
you be celebrating the Fourth in one of those cities on Thursday, you
may want to find a good spot to beat the heat and hoist a cold one.
There's a Foursquare list for that too. These are the most popular bars
for check-in activity in East Coast cities:
•Pour House Bar & Grill
•Sunset Grill & Tap
•The Lower Depths
•The Sparrow Tavern
•The Pony Bar
•Idle Hands Bar
•Knock Restaurant & Bar
•North Third Restaurant
•Landmark Americana Tap & Grill
•Iron Horse Tap Room
•The Queen Vic
Happy Independence Day!
