Scott E. Wilson
(WBIR-Knoxville) A Knoxville man is behind bars, charged with running over a man Monday night, then fleeing the scene of the accident.
According to Knoxville Police, officers arrested Scott E. Wilson, 34, at his girlfriend's house on East Glenwood Avenue Tuesday morning. The suspect's 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood was parked about a block away. He was charged with one count of Vehicular Homicide, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and Failure to Provide Financial Responsibility.
Investigators have now identified the victim of the hit and run. Ramazani Mtambala, 65, of Knoxville.
Mtambala was the father of four. His youngest daugher, Bibisha Mtambala said her father came to the United States from Congo and was the family's rock. Bibisha Mtambala said, "I feel bad because I don't have mom. I still live with my dad. So it's bad for me."
Bibisha Mtambala said she was sleeping when someone told her Ramazani Mtambala had been hit by a car. She said she forgives Wilson, but said things will be difficult without her her father, especially since she has a special needs sister.
"I have one sister who doesn't walk, doesn't talk. She doesn't do anything. She stays down. That is making me confused because my daddy took care of her," said Bibisha Mtambala.
Relatives said Ramazani Mtambala loved talking with anyone. They also said he did not have a job, but was actively looking for work.
Just before midnight on Monday Knoxville Police officers were called out to investigate a report that a person had been hit by a vehicle in east Knoxville.
Officers found a body at the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and Olive Street. Emergency responders say the person was dead when they arrived at the scene.
Investigators are still looking into what exactly happened and have not yet released the name of the victim.
