As recently highlighted by our "Heartland Series" special, Farragut is showing off a piece of land and a battle important to the turning tide of the Civil War in East Tennessee.
150 years ago, in the Battle at Campbell Station, the Confederacy, led by General James Longstreet, made an attempt to take Knoxville, a Union stronghold in East Tennessee.
That is now the land surrounding the Farragut town hall.
Halfway through his campaign, Longstreet realized the Union had tried to pull him away from reinforcements.
Campbell Station became the first battle in the Confederacy's attempt to take Knoxville, and it was a Union victory.
Artifacts from that battle, including soldier tents, the weapons and ammunition they used can now be seen on exhibit at the Farragut Folklife Museum.
If you want to see the full Heartland Series episode, the DVD will soon be available for purchase on WBIR.com.
