A long-time LaFollette businessman received a special honor for his 88th birthday on Wednesday. The mayor declared it "Carl Pierce Day," and everyone wanted to celebrate!
Pierce Furniture Gallery has been in business for sixty years.
"Went in business with a good friend of mine, $3,100 borrowed money. Didn't know nobody and 13 competitors. So, we've been blessed," said Pierce.
His son took over the business in 1999, but Carl still comes in to the store every day.
"That is the secret I think, dealing with people. When I came to LaFollette I made up my mind, I was gonna tell the truth, I was gonna be nice to people, I was gonna accommodate them in any way I could," said Pierce.
And he's definitely made an impression on others.
"His bubbling personality just kind of makes you want to listen to what he has to say," said Gail Bowman.
"I strive to get along with everybody, tell them the truth, sell them a good product, back it up. If something happens to it, fix it, and that word gets around," said Pierce.
And that reputation has earned him the love and respect of many of his fellow business owners and customers.
"Carl Pierce Day. That is one of the greatest honors that I have ever imagined," said Pierce.
