(WBIR - Oak Ridge) The 6th annual Oak Ridge Velo Classic highlighted East Tennessee's beautiful landscapes while also recognizing the accomplishments of local residents.
Organizers said this year's event was extra special because it was the state championship for the junior level for competitors ages 10 through 18.
Race founder, Lou Rabinowitz, told 10News having some of the state's best riders compete on a great course makes for a truly special race.
"If you go look at Chattanooga and upper East Tennessee, the tri-cities area, and particularly Knoxville, we probably have when they do state championship events that fifty-percent of the state champions come from right around here," Rabinowitz said.
He also said they initially created the race to help promote healthy sports in the area.
Approximately 250 riders took part in this year's race, including a former Olympian.
