The Mobile Meals telethon got underway early Monday morning.
(WBIR, Knoxville, TN) The Mobile Meals telethon raised more than $125,000 Monday. The organization says the money is enough to serve 152 seniors for an entire year.
The money raised through the 12-hour telethon will help bring hot meals to seniors who otherwise are unable to prepare meals for themselves.
"I'm not surprised because the people of Knox county are, you know, everything comes from their heart and they're generous, but I am surprised because WOW! that's a lot of money, and it's gonna absolutely let us feed seniors for the whole year," said Mobile Meals Manger Alison Taylor.
After a difficult summer for Knox County's Mobile Meals program, 10News and the Mayor's office are asking for your help to get them back on track.
The Mobile Meals telethon got underway Monday morning. Channel 10 and other media will be broadcasting portions of the event from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Mobile Meals provides some 900 home-bound seniors with a hot meal each day. Officials said 100% of Monday's donations will be used to buy food for the program. It costs $3.15 a day to feed a senior.
