A 60-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday after police said he stabbed a 13-year-old who was defending his grandmother.
The teenage boy, was taken to Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt for treatment. He is expected to recover.
The suspect, Harold Ransom, was with the teen and several others at a large party on South Eighth Street in the Cayce Place neighborhood, according to Nashville police Captain Kenneth Walburn. Around midnight, Ransom allegedly shoved the teen's grandmother.
When the teen came to her defense, Walburn said, a fight ensued.
"Ransom produced a pocket knife and slashed the teen's chest," Walburn said.
Ransom, who does not live in the Cayce Place neighborhood, has 61 arrests on record in Nashville, Walburn said. His past charges include aggravated assault, resisting arrest, trespassing and multiple drug and alcohol offenses.
