(WBIR-Jefferson City, Tn) The Jefferson City police chief and a detective are on administrative leave after they fatally shot a suspect on Monday.
Tracy Lynn Daniel, 51, of Jefferson City, was killed after investigators say he charged at them with a knife.
The confrontation started when officers responded to a 911 call on Martha Glass Drive of one man threatening another with a knife. When they arrived on scene, they ordered Daniel to drop the weapon.
He refused. A release from the Jefferson City Police Department says officers first used non-lethal methods to subdue Daniel, including a taser and bean bag weapon.
When Daniel ran at them with a knife, Police Chief Kenneth Davis and Detective Michael Stallings opened fire.
The officers involved are on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation. None of them were injured.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is working with the Jefferson County Police Department on the investigation.
