Park crews are shutting down Springhouse Gap Trail to any horse use through October. They say heavy rain washed away part of the trail and made it unsafe for horses. Hikers can still check out the trail, but they're urged to take caution.
Crews will also close some of the parking near the Alum Cave trail until mid-September.
Crews will continue rehabilitation work on more than six miles of Newfound Gap Road. They are working to improve drainage and sidewalks along the road.
