(WBIR-Knoxville) Heavy early morning rains caused a portion of the roof to collapse at Big Don's Elegant Junk and Costume Shop, but the owner says it's a blessing in disguise.

According to the Knoxville Fire Department, the building has a flat rubber membrane covering with drains that allow the water to run off, but in some cases, like this morning, the rain fell faster than the drains could disperse the water.

The damage appears to be confined to the back corner of the shop that the owner says is used for storage.

She has been planning to convert the space in the back of the building into a small theater, and she says this is giving her the perfect reason to start on the project.

"I am excited, I am not upset, I am just really happy that it happened. And I know people think that's strange," said owner Ramona.

She plans to use the theater for musicals and to also work with children. Big Don's is still open. You can contact Ramona for an appointment.
