The National Soccer Coaches Association of America has named Tennessee's Caroline Brown to its Scholar All-South Region team and tabbed senior Alexis Owens and juniors Tori Bailey for Caroline Capocaccia as honorable mentions.
Brown garnered second-team honors, marking the second consecutive year that she has garnered major academic accolades. In 2011, she was selected as a Capital One Third Team Academic All-American.
The junior from Hershey, Pa., led Tennessee in 2012 with seven assists. She scored five goals and her 17 points tied for the team high. Brown also had three match-winners, moving her into ties for second place on UT's all-time lists for match-winners (11) and golden goals (three).
To be nominated for NSCAA Scholar honors, a student-athlete must be a junior or above in academic eligibility, have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and be a significant contributor to the team.
All four UT student-athletes have shined in the classroom for multiple seasons. Owens was a two-time SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll selection (2010, 2011) during her Tennessee career. Bailey, Brown and Capocaccia were also 2011 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll picks.
