HOOVER, Ala. - Vanderbilt was picked to finish fourth in the SEC East this football season, one spot in front of Tennessee.

Two-time defending national champion Alabama was the overwhelming choice to win the SEC West and got 182 of 243 votes cast by media members at SEC Media Days to claim the conference title.

Georgia was picked to win the SEC East, followed by South Carolina and Florida. Missouri was sixth and Kentucky seventh.

Texas A&M was the pick to take second in the SEC West, receiving nine more votes than LSU. Ole Miss, Auburn, Mississippi State and Arkansas rounded out the division.

The Commodores finished fourth in the SEC East last season en route to a 9-4 record -- its most wins in a season since 1915. Vanderbilt has seven starters returning on each side of the ball. Tennessee is coming off a 5-7 campaign and a coaching change.

Vanderbilt had two players on the preseason All-SEC first team: wide receiver Jordan Matthews and placekicker Carey Spear. Defensive back Andre Hal was named to the second team and offensive tackle Wesley Johnson made the third team.

Linebacker A.J. Johnson was the Vols' lone representative on the first team, although they had four offensive linemen on the second and third teams: Antonio Richardson (second), Ja'Wuan James (second), Zach Fulton (third) and James Stone (third). Defensive lineman Daniel McCullers also was named to the third team.

Texas A&M quarterback and 2012 Heisman winner Johnny Manziel headlined the first-team offense, while South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney headlined the first-team defense. The top two vote-getters were defensive players: Alabama linebacker C.J. Mosley (231 votes) and Clowney (223).
