Lafayette, LA (Sports Network) - Tymell Murphy registered a double-double with
16 points and 16 rebounds to lead the FIU Panthers to an 80-75 victory
over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns in a Sun Belt Conference tilt at the
Jerome Frink led FIU (11-8, 6-4 Sun Belt) with 20 points, the most he has
scored since dropping 22 points in the first game of his collegiate career.
Marco Porcher Jimenez added 13 points off the bench.
Elfrid Payton and Alan-Michael Thompson each scored 22 points to lead
Louisiana (7-15, 3-8), which has now lost three straight games. Shawn Long
added a double-double with 21 points and 14 boards, while the rest of the
Cajuns combined for just 10 points.
FIU held a 36-33 advantage after an evenly played first half in which each
team shot between 43 and 44 percent from the floor.
Louisiana opened the second half on a 23-15 run and led by five midway through
the period before FIU regained control. The Panthers broke a 72-72 tie late in
the game with a Frink layup, and they followed that up with four straight free
throws by Cameron Bell and Frink to ice it.
Each team finished with 38 rebounds, 14 assists and seven steals in the back-
and-forth contest. The difference was made at the foul line, where FIU
outscored Louisiana, 19-9.
