Jersey City, NJ (Sports Network) - A steal and a layup by Chris Burke in the
final seconds of overtime proved decisive as the Saint Peter's Peacocks
defeated the Marist Red Foxes, 70-68, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference
action at the Yanitelli Center.
Desi Washington recorded a game-high 26 points to go with five boards in the
Peacocks' (7-14, 2-9 MAAC) victory. Darius Conley added 14 points and four
rebounds. Karee Ferguson chipped in 16 points and four rebounds as Saint
Peter's which ended a eight-game losing streak.
For the Red Foxes (5-17, 2-9), Chavaughn Lewis recorded a team-high 23 points.
Isaiah Morton recorded 11 points and four boards as Marist lost its third came
in a row.
Marist outscored Saint Peter's, 7-1, in made free throws, leading to a 25-22
advantage at the break.
Both teams shot over 50 percent from the floor in the second, but a Blaise
Ffrench foul shot with 18 seconds remaining forced overtime for the Red Foxes.
With the game knotted at 68-68 with nine seconds remaining, Burke stole the
ball from Morton and took it all the way for a layup that proved to be the
game winner when Devin Price missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
The Peacocks forced 21 turnovers and made 8-of-15 from beyond the arc, while
holding the Red Foxes to a mere 5-of-20 from long-range on the night.
