Santa Clara, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Behind a career-high 23 points from
Brandon Clark, the Santa Clara Broncos defeated the San Jose State Spartans at
the Leavey Center, 89-77.
Jerry Brown had a big game off the bench for Santa Clara (2-0) with 16 points,
10 rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Jared Brownridge and Denzel Johnson
netted 15 and 11, respectively.
For SJSU (0-1), Jaleel Williams shot 5-of-11 from the field and 8-of-8 from
the free-throw stripe en route to 20 points. Rashad Muhammad (15 points) and
Chris Cunningham (12 points, seven rebounds) were also solid for the visitors.
Santa Clara dominated the first half by shooting 48.5 percent from the floor
while holding SJSU to less than 30 percent field goal efficiency, as the
Broncos went into the break with a comfortable 42-28 advantage.
Even though the Spartans improved their field goal shooting to 54.8 percent
after intermission, Santa Clara held firm to a double-digit lead for most of
the second half.
Santa Clara outrebound SJSU, 42-34, and won the turnover battle, 15-11.
