Riverside, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Nikolas Skouen knocked down four free
throws in the final 15 seconds to help give the Pepperdine Waves to a 69-66
win over the UC Riverside Highlanders in non-conference action at the Student
Skouen finished with 10 points off the bench for the Waves (2-0), matching the
output of both Brendan Lane and Jeremy Major. Leading the way in the scoring
department was Stacy Davis who tallied 23 points, adding nine rebounds for
The Highlanders (0-2) were paced by Chris Harriel with 15 points as a reserve,
followed by Taylor Johns with 13 points, Chris Patton 12 and Lucas Devenny 10
Pepperdine not only shot 54.2 percent from the field in the first half, but
also connected on 6-of-8 behind the 3-point line in order to post a 40-32
advantage at the break.
In the second half the Waves dipped down to a mere 29.2 percent from the
floor, converting a total of just seven field goals, but a 12-of-15 showing at
the charity stripe was just enough to get them back into the win column.
Pepperdine outscored the hosts at the charity stripe, 20-11, and also held UCR
to just 3-of-16 beyond the arc.
