Queens, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Phil Greene IV notched 16 points as the St.
John's Red Storm knocked off the Bucknell Bison, 67-63, at Carnesecca Arena.
Greene IV converted 7-of-12 from the field for the Red Storm (2-1). D'Angelo
Harrison notched 12 points, JaKarr Sampson added 11 points and six rebounds,
and Chris Obekpa blocked seven shots.
Cameron Ayers netted a game-high 25 points for the Bison (2-2), shooting 9-
of-15 from the field and 4-of-4 from the stripe. Brian Fitzpatrick netted 12
points, and Dom Hoffman posted 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
The Red Storm failed to get productivity from the perimeter early on, as they
shot only 1-of-8 from 3-point range in the first 20 minutes. The Bison shot a
confident 53.6 percent from the field during that stretch, including 3-of-6
from long distance, and they went up 35-32 at the halfway mark.
Bucknell could not match its strong start and shot only 39.3 percent from the
field for the rest of the contest. St. John's found the offensive consistency
it was lacking the opening half and shot 46.4 percent. After retaking the lead
with 8:56 left on a Greene IV jumper, the Red Storm would hang on to finish
Turnovers made the difference in this one, as 12 by Bucknell led to 14 points
for St. John's, who only committed half as many turnovers in the contest. The
Storm also outscored their opponent on fast-break points, 13-3.
