Forbes magazine rates Tennessee football as the ninth most valuable team in the nation, despite its recent troubles.
Forbes used U.S. Department of Education information from 2010-2011 to determine the value of each college football program in a report on the business of college football. There were several factors in the overall value, including impact on the local economy, revenue generated and expenses.
Texas was deemed the most valuable team at $133 million, well ahead of second-place Michigan ($120 million) and third-place Notre Dame ($103 million).
The SEC had seven of the 10 most valuable football brands in the country, according to Forbes. LSU was fourth overall at $102 million.
Forbes reported Tennessee was worth $85 million, but according to the figures used, the Vols had by far the smallest football revenue at $55 million and the smallest football profit, $35 million, of any of the top ten most valuable teams.
The report also names Alabama's Nick Saban as the most powerful coach in America based on its methodology. It also has Auburn ranked among the "Worst College Football Teams for the Money".
