The Vols' newest commitment says he picked Tennessee to honor a fallen friend and his grandmother.
Volquest.com reports that DaVonte Lambert, who is currently playing a Georgia Military College, will transfer to Tennessee in January.
The 6-foot-3, 280-pound defensive lineman piced the Vols over Auburn, Georgia, Florida, and several others. Lambert should also get early playing time with the Vols.
Lambert told Volquest that his grandmoter, Margie Grant, couldn't stop talking about Butch Jones after their recruiting visit. That influenced his decision to go with the Vols.
"Out of all my visits, that's the only one she's kept talking about," Lambert told Volquest. "(My mother and grandmother) mean the world to me; my grandma is a blessing. Just to let her see me make everything come true is like a dream come true as well. She would look at me every day and just tell me, 'You're going to be something.' It sticks with me on the inside, because I want to make my grandma happy. That's the thing I most want to do."
Lambert is also playing for a fallen teammate. His friend, Denzel Wortham, was killed in a car accident in 2012.
