LOUDON, N.H. - Ryan Newman is keeping an open mind about finding his next ride in the Sprint Cup Series, but he might be crossing Joe Gibbs Racing off his list.
Kyle Busch had some choice words for the Stewart-Haas Racing driver after Newman was involved in a wreck with Busch's older brother, Kurt, in Sunday's Camping World RV Sales 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
"I really hated that Kurt got tore up," Kyle Busch told a small group of reporters after finishing second. "I felt like he had the best car. And was proud of them guys but, man, just stupidity. I mean Ryan Newman's the biggest stupid idiot out here, and he's a big ogre and can do whatever he wants because he can probably kick anybody's butt. So no sense in getting in a fight with him, but glad he's out of a job."
Newman is looking for a job for next season after Stewart-Haas revealed Friday it wouldn't add a fourth car for him when Kevin Harvick joins the team in 2014.
Kurt Busch led a race-high 103 laps Sunday but got mired in traffic after taking four tires during a stop under caution with 97 laps remaining. Three laps after a lap 223 restart, he dove beneath Newman in Turn 2 and then said he was bumped from behind by Matt Kenseth, who put the blame on Busch for the incident
"Kind of lost our track position when Kurt (Busch) cleaned out (Ryan) Newman," said Kenseth, Kyle Busch's teammate at JGR. "I had to stop to miss that wreck."
Newman said he'd been slammed in traffic after the restart by Kyle Busch and then Brad Keselowski before the contact with Kurt Busch, who finished 31st.
"Kurt went underneath three-wide and bypassed (Kenseth) and clipped us and knocked us into the fence and took himself out," Newman (39th) said. "I guess (Kenseth) had a little influence on it. We kind of were in a bad spot having a little bit older tires. Just a lot of disrespect from a bunch of guys on restarts. What comes around goes around.
"I didn't expect to get hit, but I remember who hit me."
