Santa Clara, CA (Sports Network) - The San Francisco 49ers added linebacker Clark Haggans to the active roster on Tuesday.

Haggans, who signed with the 49ers in September, dressed for the club's first two games but did not play before he was suspended by the NFL for three games for a violation of the league's substance abuse policy stemming from a 2011 DUI arrest when he was a member of the Arizona Cardinals.

The 13-year veteran spent the last four seasons in Arizona, racking up 185 tackles over 56 games -- including 43 starts.

The 35-year-old Haggans played his first eight seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers and appeared in 107 games -- including 61 starts -- with 304 tackles, 12 forced fumbles and one interception.

To make room for Haggans on the roster, the team waived linebacker Eric Bakhtiari.
